A Unique Selling Proposition (USP) Template for Coaches and Consultants


Today I'm finishing my thoughts from last week, where I showed you the 5 key elements of a unique selling proposition.

I am going to give you a template that you can use to craft your own Unique Selling Proposition (USP) with the building blocks outlined in that post. So if you haven't already, click the link above to read the post!

USP Template: Who You Help and How


This template is all about identifying your avatar and demonstrating how you help them better than anyone else.

I help {Who you sell to} {transformation} by/with {unique feature/benefit}.

For example, I could create a USP for my own business that would go something like this:

I specialize in helping | female coaches and consultants (who) | tell their story online in a way that resonates with their audience and gets them to buy! (transformation) | I make this process fast, easy, and inexpensive | with my no-contract Website Membership programs. (unique feature/benefit).

If you offer a great guarantee, that should be added to the end of your USP.

For example, back when I was a full-time magician (yes, I said magician), my USP was something like:

"I provide unique magic & mentalism entertainment that is specifically designed to WOW the guests at your next corporate or non-profit event – all with the BEST service you have ever received from an entertainer, guaranteed."

If you are using a guarantee, you want it to be related to the thing that scares them most. What scares party planners most is their vendor not being professional, not showing up, not communicating well, etc.

I flipped that on its head and told them that I would give their money back if it wasn't the best service they've ever received. I never had anybody take me up on my guarantee, but it certainly made it easier to convert.
